Trigger points have been a subject of study many doctors for several decades. The existence of tender areas and zones of induration in muscles has been recognized in medicine for many years and was described as muscular rheumatism, fibrositis, myogelose or myalgie. The first major breakthroughs in Trigger Point Therapy were made by J. H. Kellgren at University College Hospital in London, England during the 1930s. Around the same time Michael Gutstein in Berlin and Michael Kelly in Australia also provided major contributions to the field.
